Working at GIS

About Us

The Garden International School (TGIS), is a progressive and rapidly growing international school in Guangzhou, China.

TGIS currently consists of one Primary School and one Kindergarten on separate sites in the south of the city. Both schools are led by an experienced international School Director and Principal, together with a Deputy Principal in each school, and a supportive Board. The Kindergarten was established in 2014 and is a successful IB school. Thereafter, the Primary School opened in 2016 and is seeking candidacy to become a PYP school to follow the successful application of our Kindergarten. Both schools offer an inquiry-based, bi-lingual (Mandarin/English) education to both local and international students

All applicants for teaching positions at GIS must be native-level English speakers and will be required to teach children between the ages of 2 – 6 in the Kindergarten and between 6 – 11 in the Primary School. Applicants will be required to register as an overseas teacher working in China and will need to meet the qualification requirements of a B.A / B.Ed in Primary or Early Years Education, a PGCE/PGDE or educational qualifications at a similar or higher level.

The safety and well-being of our students is of paramount importance and applicants must have appropriate criminal records clearance and be willing to undergo child protection screenings.

Experience working with children who are learning English as a second language will be a significant advantage as the majority of children in our schools are EAL learners. Teachers are also supported by bilingual teaching assistants and in Kindergarten by an additional Chinese helper. The Kindergarten follows the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and is an IB school, and the Primary School has submitted its application for PYP candidacy. Therefore, experience working with the PYP will also be an advantage. The schools value staff who are flexible and willing to support an inquiry-based, collaborative curriculum.

Successful applicants are employed on a 2-year contract, which is renewable by mutual agreement. The package includes:

  • Competitive salary based on experience and responsibilities
