Welcome to Kindergarten

Programmes

GIS Kindergarten offers programmes to children aged 2 – 6 years old which nurture their physical, language, intellectual, social and emotional development.  Our school day starts at 08:00 and finishes at 16:00.

Our aim is to develop the whole child; we recognise and encourage the individual and their development.  We follow children’s interests and ensure that these interests are supported and nurtured.

Pre-Nursery (aged 2 years to 2 years 11 months)

Our Pre-Nursery classrooms are a tactile, sensory and caring learning environment, appropriate to the children’s stage of development.  Children play with equipment and tools which appeals to and stimulates their innate curiosity – and encourages language development, confidence and awareness.

We plan a carefully organised routine which includes indoor and outdoor play, stories, songs and rhymes and self-chosen activities.  We provide opportunities for children to explore and investigate the environment around them.

Classes are led by English-mother tongue teacher in collaboration with a Chinese speaking teacher, a teacher assistant and an aye.

Nursery (aged 3 years to 3 years 11 months)

In our Nursery classrooms, children are introduced to a learning-centre environment where they learn through exploration and inquiry.  Classes are organised around interest areas or learning centres. These defined areas allow children to play, investigate and explore with the guidance of their teachers either individually or in small groups.

Skills that lead to reading and writing and maths are not confined to specific centres, but are reinforced in different ways in all learning-centres through communication, exploration and play.

Children learn the importance of collaboration, manners and routines.

Pre-Kindergarten (aged 4 years to 4 years 11 months)

In Pre-Kindergarten, the learning-centre environment is enriched with stand-alone English phonics and mathematics programmes.  Children’s mother-tongue and home culture is supported by daily immersion sessions.

Kindergarten (aged 5 years to 5 years 11 months)

The Kindergarten programme prepares children for entry into local or international curriculum Primary Schools.
